Some Publicity For My Instamatic For The People Project

The people at ChooseFilm have written an article about my ongoing Instamatic for the People project – whch is taking shape I will be adding yet more scans to the gallery soon. THis project is being shot exclusively on Fuji Instax film.

The article can be found here:

In the meantime I will be updating this blog  soon I have been busy settling into my new studio and organising a new website. As well as doing the thing I love taking photographs I have been busy doing some location shoots and some live gigs which I will write further in my next update.

Carl Barat At Newcastle Other Rooms

I have just added some images from Carl Barat‘s gig at Newcastle Other Rooms – where he played songs from his new self titled  solo album as well as Libertines and Dirty Pretty things favourites.

Please see the images from the gig in the Carl Barat Other Room  gallery.

Frankie And The Heartstrings At RPM Record Store Newcastle

On Saturday I photographed a stripped down Frankie and the Heartstrings (Frankie and Michael) playing at one of my favourite local independent record stores R.P.M.

You could not have failed to be impressed by their acoustic set Frankie did not even use a mic – a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I bought their new single Ungrateful.

I have put some images from the day in my Frankie And The Heartstrings RPM gallery.

I was pleased that both Michael and Frankie agreed to take part in my Instamatic for the People project.

It is always good to support live music especially at a local record store

New York Dolls Newcastle Cluny 2010

I am still recovering from the three night stint of New York Dolls at The Cluny here in Newcastle. It has been like the holiday season to be photographing a band I admire and have followed  for all of my adult life and before – which is a long time.

I was lucky enough to see Johnny Thunders play at Newcastle Riverside – back then never in my wildest dreams could I have envisaged seeing the New York Dolls playing at a pub under Byker Bridge – I feel now anything is possible.

In 2004 I saw their first reunion at Royal Festival Hall at the time I thought it was going to be their two gigs at that venue then they would go back to doing their solo work – since they have delivered two strong relevant albums songs from which they play in their live set-  they are not just are not just relying on past glories. It was good to hear some new songs at the gigs from their new album which they are recording here in Newcastle.

You can see my photographs from their Royal Festival Hall gig on my Flickr page

Anyhow I must admit I felt more pressure than normal shooting these gigs as I really wanted to do the band justice at such keynote  gigs for our area.

My Tribute To David Johansen And Sylvain Sylvain Mizrahi Of New York Dolls

I have  made a slide show as a tribute to the long-term friendship of David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain . The bond between them seems so strong and was so refreshing to see them and the band relaxed and having such a good time during their three night stint at The Cluny in my hometown of  Newcastle. I will be adding more photographs from the gigs to my gallery soon

Instax For The People Project 100 People Served And Counting

A big thank you to everybody that has so far supported my instant photography project.

This weekend as well as photographing the New York Dolls at The Cluny I was also at the Transmission New Wave event in the splendour of the Grand Room of the Discovery Museum. I will be adding photographs from the event soon to my Flickr site.

This gave me the opportunity to photograph some more musicians for my Instax For The people project. I am so happy that people seem enthusiastic to  participate in this project – I still marvel at the way the image appears on the paper it is a little bit of magic :-).

Please see my Instax For The People Gallery

Tom Robinson has a done so much to encourage local music talent ,and he was on the panel at the event.  I told him about my project and he was happy that he agreed to pose for this project

Here’s to serving at least another 100 people and an exhibition in early. 2011.

Rebellion Festival, NSE Weekender, Portraits, and Published Work

It was so good to be able to photograph at Rebellion Festival. It was an intense day I worked none stop from 1pm until the New York Dolls wrapped up the day at 2 o’clock on Sunday morning – it was intense but so much fun I wouldn’t have it any other way.

It was all things punk including sticks of Blackpool punk rock – I hope to be there next year.

I have put some of the photographs of New York Dolls, Penetration, and UK Subs in their appropriate gallery. I will be uploading images of other bands soon.

The following night I was photographing the National Society For Epilepsy event at Newcastle Cluny. I shot the previous event back in April – it is a fantastic showcase for the leading North East bands but more importantly it is a worthwhile cause. The Sunday night was headlined by Ever Since The lake Caught Fire who delivered a short sharp set and left the crowd wanting more. The images are in the National Society For Epilepsy gallery

I done a photo shoot with Union Choir for Narc magazine which proved to be fun. It was outdoors on a typical rainy summer’s evening in South Shields. The first location had to be abandoned because of too many chavs hanging around the bandstand. We then ended up in another nearby park.

The band were really co-operative and it was easy to work with them they seemed on the whole to be relaxed in front of the camera – I was expecting five members but there was actually eight. Overall I am pleased with the shots and have put some of them in the Portrait Gallery. Check out the band at the Union Choir Myspace.

I have also updated my published work section including recent shots of Carl Barat, Adam, Green, and Jesse Malin. I am also pleased that The Doors Alive are using my photographs from Newcastle Academy from back in January to promote their forthcoming tour. I also please to see my Evolution images used by Culture Deluxe magazine

My Instax For The people has gone quiet this month I have added a few images to the gallery but I need more people so if you see me with my Instax camera you know I could be looking for you to participate in my project.
